Eliot Hall, HKU2021

I earned my PhD from HKU under the supervision of Prof. Yizhou YU. I then continued my academic career at CUHK, where I worked under the guidance of Prof. Dou Qi. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at LIX, École Polytechnique with Maks Ovsjanikov.

Having had the privilege to live in both Hong Kong and Paris, and to work with outstanding researchers on exciting topics, I feel this is one of the best times of my life. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and biking, and I am currently learning to ski. I also love exploring nature and experiencing diverse cultures, from Hong Kong and Europe to other parts of the world.

Over the past few years, my work has centered on computer vision and graphics with deep learning, and on the representations we use for visual data, from images and video to 3D scenes. My thesis dealt with generative models of point clouds and super-resolution. Today I work on 3D Gaussian Splatting and the surfaces that can be extracted from it (MILo, From Blobs to Spokes), on what vision-language models know about 3D geometry (ZeroKey, PatchAlign3D, 3DHarnessBench), and on turning video into animatable, efficient 3D content.

Born in the Internet era, h4c|<!ng has always been my passion. I firmly believe in the spirit of free software and aspire for the cyber space to remain open and egalitarian. My expertise encompasses programming across a range of languages, enabling me to tackle diverse tasks spanning operating systems, GPU computation, encryption, and networking.
